Application for Audit Internship @ Deloitte

Application for Audit Internship @ Deloitte

In this post, I'll be sharing my experience applying for an audit internship at Deloitte — from the initial application all the way to receiving the offer.

Disclaimer: This took place in 2025, so the process may have changed since then.

Timeline

The journey began in the second semester of Year 1, around January 2025. The application process itself was fairly straightforward — I headed to https://jobs.sea.deloitte.com/job/, searched for "Audit Summer Intern", and submitted my resume along with my personal details. Nothing too complicated there.

Preparing for the interview

After submitting, the wait stretched to about 1.5 months before I received a shortlist email for an interview. For context, I had applied to all Big 4 firms, and Deloitte was the only one that got back to me.

One thing worth noting: my interview was originally scheduled on a regular school day, so I reached out to HR to reschedule. They were accommodating, though rescheduling was only possible within the same week, as all interviews had to be completed by a set deadline.

Before the interview, I used AI to brainstorm likely questions and prepared answers for the common ones — think "Introduce yourself", "What challenges have you faced?", "Why Deloitte?", and so on. It was a helpful exercise, especially going in as a first-timer.

My interview was scheduled on a Thursday at 4:30 PM. After my last class ended at 3 PM, I made my way to OUE Downtown 2 by bus.

Office level where the interview was conducted

Registration was at Level 4, where they required ID and face scanning. I then took the lift up to the office. The HR team greeted me warmly, and since I arrived early, I waited about 15 minutes before being shown to a meeting room. My interviewer was a Senior Audit Manager.

The interview opened with a curveball: "Introduce yourself — but don't repeat what's on your resume." As my first interview, that caught me slightly off guard, but I pivoted to talking about my background as an international student, my interests, CCAs, and community service involvement. There was probably some overlap with my resume, but the interviewer seemed satisfied with the answer.

What I remember most about the interview was how much of it centered on who I am outside of academics. I spoke about my interests in cardistry, reading, and maintaining my personal website. I also mentioned that I was reading Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, which turned out to be a great talking point, as the interviewer mentioned he was reading the same book at the time.

A couple of other questions that stood out were: "Deloitte occasionally organises volunteering activities — do you participate in any form of community service?" and "Deloitte's motto is 'To make an impact that matters' — what kind of impact have you made?" Throughout, I tried to come across as genuinely passionate and curious as an individual. I wrapped up the interview by asking the interviewer to clarify the differences between the Audit and Assurance departments — a question that also helped me better understand the role I was applying for.

The Offer

The post-interview wait is always nerve-wracking, but thankfully it didn't last long. Eight days after the interview, I received an offer for the 'Audit & Assurance Intern (Summer 2025)' position via email. The offer was sent on 25 February, with a deadline to respond by 28 February. To kick off onboarding, I was asked to submit a completed onboarding form, a photo of myself, my school matriculation number, and a copy of my NRIC.

Administrative Steps

Things went quiet for a while after that. It wasn't until 15 April that I received an email from SMU's career centre (DKHMCC) regarding the registration of the internship as a credit-bearing module — an important administrative step for SMU students. Key things to take note of from this process include the individual reflection reports and the performance appraisal by your supervisor at the end of the internship.

On 21 April, Deloitte sent another email requesting that I complete a "2nd Pass Application Form" to formally initiate the onboarding process.

The next update only came about a week before the internship started, when details such as dress code and reporting time were shared via email. Punctuality was heavily emphasised — and understandably so, given that there were 60+ interns onboarding on the same day. My advice: aim to arrive at least 20 minutes early for a smoother registration experience.

One last thing to note — the internship contract was not sent ahead of time. I only received mine two weeks after the internship had already started, so don't be alarmed if yours hasn't arrived before day one.

That's a wrap on the application process! I'll be sharing more about the internship experience itself in a future post. If you're currently in the midst of your own applications, I hope this gives you a clearer picture of what to expect — good luck!
