Project #1: What MBTI Really Means?

Project #1: What MBTI Really Means?

At this point, most people are familiar with MBTI. The infamous 16Personalities website offers a free test, and people around the world often ask each other about their MBTI types. Some companies have even used it as a tool in interviews. Although its use in job applications can be concerning, it provides a fun starting point for conversations and self-reflection.

However, many people misunderstand what MBTI actually represents. It is more than the idea that introverts dislike socializing, that judging types simply prefer planning, or that thinking types lack emotions.

To provide a clearer understanding, I built an interactive MBTI tool with the help of Claude. Feel free to read on to explore what MBTI really is and take the test below!

Functions

The real MBTI goes beyond four letters. Explore the 8 cognitive functions that reveal how your mind actually works.

What Are Cognitive Functions?

Think of them as 8 mental tools. Everyone has all 8, but you have 4 that are dominant — arranged in a hierarchy. Your primary tool feels like breathing. Your weakest tool is your Achilles heel.

Functions split into two groups: Perceiving (how you take in info) and Judging (how you decide). Each can be Introverted (inward) or Extroverted (outward).

Function Positions

1
DominantMost natural — feels effortless, used constantly
2
AuxiliarySupporting function — develops through young adulthood
3
TertiaryLess developed — childlike, source of stress and play
4
InferiorWeakest — your deepest insecurity, explodes under stress
Perceiving Functions
How you gather & process information
Judging Functions
How you evaluate & make decisions
Function Full Name Core Question Orientation Category Lead Types

Ni — Converges

Like a slow-cooking pot. Takes in information, processes unconsciously, surfaces one powerful insight. Future-focused, symbolic, prophetic. Prefers depth over breadth — one clear path over many possibilities.

Ne — Diverges

Like popcorn popping. One idea triggers another, which triggers another. Generates endless connections and "what ifs." Energised by novelty. Breadth over depth — many possibilities over one settled answer.

Ti — Internal Logic

Builds precise frameworks from first principles. Asks "does this make sense?" — independent of what authorities say. Needs to understand the why and how of everything before accepting it.

Te — External Systems

Organises the outside world for measurable results. Asks "what's the most efficient path?" Trusts data, metrics, and proven processes. Outcome-driven, not framework-driven.

Fi — Inner Values

A deeply personal ethical constitution. Privately intense — what's shown is a fraction of what's felt. Decisions are filtered through "does this align with who I truly am?" Authentic above all else.

Fe — Social Harmony

A social thermostat — constantly reading emotional temperatures and adjusting. Feels responsible for the wellbeing of others. Sacrifices personal preference to maintain group harmony.

Discover Your Type

Answer 24 carefully designed questions about how your mind actually works — not what you wish it did. Based on cognitive function theory, not surface-level personality preferences. Takes about 5–8 minutes.

Answer honestly. There are no good or bad types. The most accurate result comes from choosing what is true, not what sounds best.
